Cuban Institution Honors UNAM Athletics with Prestigious Recognition

The University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences of Cuba (UCCFD) awarded UNAM its 50th Anniversary Commemorative Seal, recognizing the university’s excellence in sports science education and research, as well as its strong collaborative ties with UCCFD. This prestigious distinction was granted through an official resolution issued by the Cuban institution’s president.

The award was presented during the Second Convention on University, Physical Activity, and Sports (UNAFID 2024), held October 21–25 at UCCFD’s campus in Havana, Cuba.

UNAM’s Office of University Sports (DGDU) received the distinction in a ceremony led by UCCFD President Silvano Merced Len.

For the second year in a row, UNAM’s athletics program made valuable contributions to the convention with two featured presentations: “Programmatic Trends in University Sports 2023–2027” (Tendencia programática en el deporte universitario 2023–2027), presented by Alejandro Fernández Varela Jiménez, and “Theoretical and Practical Foundations of Sports Judging and Refereeing” (Bases teórico-prácticas del jueceo y arbitraje deportivo).

The convention brought together representatives from over 12 countries, establishing itself as a leading platform for the global exchange of knowledge in sports science.

This distinguished recognition underscores UNAM’s profound impact on sports development and its dedication to fostering international collaboration, further cementing its role as a global leader in physical education and sports sciences.
