UNAM Film Archive Medal Awarded to the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain
This year, the UNAM Film Archive Medal was presented to the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain.
For 38 years, this prestigious award has honored individuals and institutions whose careers and activities have significantly contributed to the world’s cinematic heritage.
Fernando Méndez-Leite, President of the Spanish Academy, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “This tribute is particularly meaningful as it comes from the UNAM Film Archive, Latin America’s largest archive, dedicated to preserving and disseminating our cinematic memory,” he stated.
The ceremony took place at the Casa de México Foundation in Spain as part of the MestizoLab Forum, an initiative aimed at fostering co-production between Mexico and Spain in audiovisual and performing arts.
The UNAM Film Archive Medal is more than just an institutional accolade; it is a symbolic and artistic piece. Crafted from 99.9% pure silver extracted during the film development process in the Archive’s laboratories, the medal features the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México’s coat of arms on the front and the UNAM Film Archive logo on the reverse.
This presentation not only celebrated cinematography but also reaffirmed the importance of cultural collaboration between Mexico and Spain, highlighting cinema’s role as a bridge uniting both nations.
