Florence’s Prestigious Arts Society Honors UNAM Professor

UNAM’s artistic excellence continues to receive international recognition. Óscar Ulises Verde Tapia, a professor at the Faculty of Arts and Design, has been named a distinguished member of the Fine Arts Society, Circle of Artists at Casa di Dante in Florence. Founded in 1843, this institution is the oldest arts society in Italy and remains a prestigious cultural landmark.

The society serves as a vital hub for the artistic community, fostering cultural exchange and promoting aesthetic, historical, and environmental values. Through its ongoing program of exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and literary gatherings, it continues to play a key role in preserving and advancing the arts.

“I became a member of this society in 2017 when I exhibited my work in Ecuador at Los Amantes de Sumpa Museum and the Loja City Gate Museum. During this exhibition, I met a group of Italian critics and artists who expressed interest in my work and invited me to submit my portfolio for evaluation,” recalled Verde Tapia, who holds a doctorate in Art and Design.

Currently, the Fine Arts Society comprises approximately 200 active artists. The evaluation committee, made up of 16 critics and artists, assesses candidates’ career achievements and the quality of their work before admitting new members into this exclusive community.
