UNAM AND FOREIGN MINISTRY PARTNER TO SUPPORT MEXICAN MIGRANTS IN THE UNITED STATES
UNAM and Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) have joined forces to enhance support for Mexican nationals in the United States focusing on younger generations.
Through a recently signed agreement, the two institutions committed to strengthening the consular network and launching initiatives to inform and raise awareness about migration-related issues.
President Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas underscored UNAM’s dedication to serving the nation, pledging the university’s resources and expertise to assist Mexican migrants facing significant challenges. He emphasized UNAM’s readiness to collaborate with the Foreign Ministry to protect and empower these communities.
Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente highlighted the integration of UNAM’s academic and analytical capabilities into Mexico’s consular network to improve services for millions of Mexicans living in the United States. He also noted the strategic importance of UNAM’s campuses and alumni network in the U.S. as vital assets in this collaborative effort.
The agreement includes initiatives to strengthen the Matías Romero Institute, enhancing its capacity for ethical analysis and forward-looking strategies on migration.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of addressing migration through academic, ethical, and diplomatic perspectives. They stressed the need to provide immediate support while also developing sustainable, long-term solutions to improve the well-being of migrant communities.
