Tenor Rolando Villazón Returns to Mexico for Performance at UNAM

Marking his return to Mexico after a 14-year hiatus, Villazón presented the operatic gala “L’Arte del Bel Canto” as part of the UNAM Cultural Festival 2024.

For nearly three hours, Villazón captivated the audience with a diverse repertoire ranging from Italian works of the Renaissance and Baroque periods to 20th-century Mexican songs. He was accompanied by pianist Ángel Rodríguez.

Villazón’s illustrious career has seen him perform on the stages of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Salzburg Festival. His multifaceted talents extend beyond singing; he has also worked as a stage director and novelist. Villazón serves as an ambassador for the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation and, since 2019, has held the position of artistic director for the Salzburg Mozart Week. Additionally, he is an ambassador for the Red Noses Clowndoctors International organization, further demonstrating his commitment to using his artistry for philanthropic causes.
