UNAM Marks 15 Years of Global Academic Excellence
UNAM President Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas hosted the 15th-anniversary celebration of the Office for Cooperation and Internationalization (DGECI), emphasizing the department’s essential role in today’s interconnected world. In his address, he highlighted that cooperation and mutual understanding are fundamental in addressing global challenges.
Over the past 15 years, DGECI has transformed the lives of nearly 14,000 UNAM students who have broadened their horizons through studies at international institutions while welcoming over 9,500 students from around the world. This exchange has significantly enriched UNAM’s academic and cultural community.
President Lomelí also noted that DGECI has established nearly 1,300 agreements with educational and cultural institutions worldwide, reinforcing UNAM’s global presence. He emphasized that internationalization is an evolving process that must address new complexities as they arise.
William Lee Alardín, Coordinator of International Affairs, described how DGECI has become a cornerstone of academic mobility and cooperation, providing transformative experiences for thousands of students. Francisco Suárez, Director of DGECI, reflected on how these initiatives have created new opportunities for university students while advancing UNAM’s mission in teaching, research, and cultural outreach.
