Prestigious Latin American Congress Honors UNAM Accounting Students
Students from UNAM’s School of Accounting (FCyA) claimed all three top positions at the 5th Latin American Congress of Accounting and Business Administration Students (Contad 2024). Organized by the Association of Latin American Colleges and Schools of Public Accountancy (ALAFEC), the event highlighted the students’ academic excellence and leadership in the field.
José Andrés Reyes Trujillo from the Accounting program earned first place, while a team from the Administration program, Michelle Xiadani Franco Cruz, Tonantzi Guadalupe Tecuapetla Cruz, and Lisaura Reyes Andrés, secured second place. Carlota Zúñiga Leyva, representing the International Business program, completed UNAM’s sweep with a third-place finish.
Hosted by the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the congress attracted over 1,200 participants from countries including Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Mexico. Submissions underwent a rigorous two-part evaluation: a blind review of written papers to ensure impartiality and assessment of on-site presentations.
With a focus on sustainability, the congress adopted the theme “Our Shared Future Starts Today!” and featured twelve specialized discussion panels addressing topics such as accounting, finance, marketing, and international business. In addition to its academic agenda, the forum fostered cultural exchange among Latin American students.
The School of Accounting acknowledged the vital contributions of faculty advisors Karen Gisel Velázquez Rojas and Raúl Esteban Cruz Quiroz. Their mentorship and support in preparing the students’ submissions played a crucial role in achieving this remarkable success at such a distinguished event.
