Transforming Global Education
In 2024, the COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) model supported 56 collaborative courses that integrated international perspectives, enriching classroom experiences. At the inauguration of the Second UNAM COIL Conference 2024, held at ENES Mérida, Tamara Martínez Ruiz, UNAM’s Secretary of Institutional Development, highlighted the initiative’s growing reach: more than 5,100 students and 2,900 faculty members participated in these international programs. This expansion underscores UNAM’s commitment to inclusive, accessible, and global education.
Martínez Ruiz emphasized that the COIL model enhances individual academic development and establishes UNAM as a globally engaged institution addressing worldwide challenges through a multicultural lens. During the 2024-2 semester, UNAM hosted 300 students from 22 countries across 24 academic departments, further strengthening its international collaboration network.
The model’s impact is also evident in the more than 3,900 international students who have joined UNAM’s academic community in recent years, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering global connections. These initiatives reinforce UNAM’s position as a leader in educational internationalization, promoting cultural diversity and academic exchange on a global scale.
