Mexico–Ecuador–Peru Academic Exchange Deepens Community Engagement
The School of Architecture (FA) at UNAM hosted the Tenth International Academic Exchange between Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru. The program was inaugurated by Faculty Dean Mónica Cejudo Collera, Guillermina Rosas, academic coordinator of the exchange at FA, and Jaime Guerra, academic coordinator from the University of Cuenca, Ecuador.
This initiative aims to strengthen the connection between academia and local communities by using exchange programs as an alternative pedagogical model in architecture, urbanism, and landscape design.
This edition began on March 10 and included students from UNAM’s School of Architecture, the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Cuenca, Ecuador, and the National University of Trujillo in Peru.
As part of the exchange, a workshop was organized by the Laboratory of Territories, Transformations, and Meanings at FA, led by Guillermina Rosas López and faculty members Abril Barrera Novella, Mariana García Fajardo, and Geraldine Rodríguez Cárdenas.
On Tuesday, March 11, students and faculty visited San Luis Tlaxialtemalco, where they engaged with local issues under José Genovevo Pérez Espinosa’s guidance, with community members’ participation.
The event also featured contributions from cultural experts who have studied the region’s Indigenous heritage, including Carlos Arriaga, Meregildo Toledo, Viridiana Saldaña, and Mario Alberto Vásquez.
