Strengthening Academic Ties with China
During a recent visit to Mexico, UNAM’s China Office representatives emphasized that the current geopolitical landscape presents a key opportunity to strengthen academic ties with the Asian nation.
The UNAM-China delegation, led by Director Adalberto Noyola and Communications and Outreach Coordinator Raúl L. Parra, visited multiple faculties, research centers, and institutes to engage with students, faculty, and researchers; foster new partnerships with Chinese institutions; and promote China as a strategic hub for student mobility, academic exchange, and scientific cooperation.
During their tour, the delegation met with students at the Institutions of Higher Studies in Acatlán, Aragón, and Iztacala, showcasing the mobility opportunities available through UNAM’s partnerships with Chinese universities.
UNAM’s China office, which has operated for over 12 years at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), serves as a platform to expand academic cooperation across China and the wider Asia-Pacific region. It remains UNAM’s sole institutional presence in that part of the world.
Noyola highlighted several reasons for students to consider China as an exchange destination, including its universities’ high academic standards, global leadership in science and technology, status as the world’s second-largest economy, and role as Mexico’s second-largest trading partner.
