Mexican Astronomy Shines in UNAM Internacional
Recently presented, the ninth edition of UNAM Internacional explores the many facets of astronomy, tracing its journey from early foundations to cutting-edge findings.
The publication explores the pressing questions of our time and the challenges we face in the future, as noted by María Soledad Funes Argüello, Coordinator of Scientific Research at UNAM.
At the launch of this edition, which focuses on the theme of the universe, Funes Argüello remarked that the volume offers more than data or theories. It invites readers to see science as a profoundly human endeavor, shaped by collaboration, curiosity, perseverance, and wonder.
William Lee Alardín, Coordinator of International Affairs at UNAM, pointed out that the editorial team aimed for generational diversity among its contributors and sought to highlight how astronomy is practiced in Mexico.
From a scientific and technological perspective, he added that addressing issues such as climate change, food security, and the monitoring of cosmic bursts requires a society that is scientifically informed and aware of its place in the universe.
Speaking to members of the scientific community gathered in the Meeting Room of the Technical Council of UNAM’s Scientific Coordination Office, Francisco Suárez Güemes, Director of the Office for International Cooperation and Internationalization, explained that this edition explores how we perceive the universe and our role within it.
