Germany and Mexico Strengthen Academic Ties with Internationalization Workshop
The University Extension Unit of UNAM in Oaxaca, in collaboration with the School of Geography and UNAM’s Germany Office, launched the Internationalization Workshop between Germany and Mexico. This initiative fosters local, regional, state, and international cooperation by establishing connections between academic institutions and government agencies.
During the opening session, Clariza Toledo, Academic Coordinator of UNAM’s University Extension Unit in Oaxaca; Marco Reyes Terán, Deputy Secretary of the Oaxaca State Secretariat of Public Education; and María Teresa Sánchez Salazar, Director of the Institute of Geography, emphasized that interdisciplinary events like this open up opportunities for collaboration with international agencies that support educational development and joint research projects.
The workshop featured participation from several UNAM research units, including the Institutes of Aesthetics, Historical Studies, Geography, Mathematics, and Philology. Representatives from Oaxaca’s Secretariat of Public Education, the Secretariat for Agri-Food Development and Rural Affairs, and local universities such as Universidad Autónoma de Chapingo, Universidad de la Sierra Juárez, and Universidad Autónoma Comunal de Oaxaca also took part. These institutions engaged in discussions and formed connections to generate opportunities for inter-institutional cooperation and long-term collaborative activities at the national and global levels.
Among the invited international agencies, Christina Siebe, the Mexico representative of the German Research Foundation (DFG), provided an in-depth overview of funding opportunities designed to promote global collaboration across scientific disciplines.
