Mexico and Chile Deepen Academic Collaboration

During his official visit to Chile, Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, President of UNAM, met with Nicolás Cataldo Astorga, Chile’s Minister of Education. The two leaders discussed the longstanding relationship between Mexico and Chile, emphasizing UNAM’s significant influence on Latin American intellectual thought.

Also present at the meeting was Laura Moreno Rodríguez, Mexico’s Ambassador to Chile. All parties agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, particularly through initiatives focused on knowledge-sharing to address shared regional challenges.

In this regard, President Lomelí and Minister Cataldo agreed to enhance academic cooperation through joint research and teaching projects that will benefit students and faculty.

President Lomelí emphasized that this is an ideal moment to further deepen the strong relationship between Mexico and Chile. He pointed out that universities in both countries play a crucial role: enhancing student and academic mobility and fostering a better understanding of regional challenges and solutions.

As part of this renewed commitment to Latin American cooperation, it was announced that the University of Chile will be the guest of honor at the Seventh International Book Fair of University Publishing, organized by UNAM. The event will be held from August 26 to 31, 2025, at the UNAM Exhibition and Congress Center in Ciudad Universitaria.
