MEXICO’S EXPANDING ROLE IN AEROSPACE
Mexico is solidifying its position as a key player in the global aerospace industry, a topic highlighted by UNAM President Leonardo Lomelí at the University Space Seminar, held at the Javier Barros Sierra Auditorium in the School of Engineering.
Bringing together students, researchers, and industry professionals, the seminar aimed to strengthen Mexico’s participation in the international space agenda and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
UNAM Leads the Way in Rare Disease Research in Mexico
With the establishment of the Mexican Rare Disease Patient Registry, UNAM has taken a major step in rare disease research.
This initiative, led by Claudia Gonzaga Jáuregui, a Principal Investigator at the International Laboratory for Human Genome Research (LIIGH) on UNAM’s Juriquilla campus in Querétaro, aims to provide reliable data on the prevalence of these conditions in Mexico and Latin America.

Cuban writer Leonardo Padura, best known for his novel The Man Who Loved Dogs, recently visited UNAM for a discussion titled “Havana, Trotsky, and Other Things: Padura at UNAM.” Held at the Miguel Covarrubias Hall in the University Cultural Center, the event was organized by the José Emilio Pacheco Chair of UNAM’s Directorate of Literature and Reading Promotion.
It attracted students and scholars eager to engage with the acclaimed author.

The María Zambrano Extraordinary Chair was officially inaugurated at the University of Havana with a keynote lecture by poet and Cervantes Institute director Luis García Montero.
