ECONOMIC GROWTH ESSENTIAL FOR MEXICO TO EXPAND SOCIAL SERVICE FUNDING
Mexico has experienced a significant reduction in monetary poverty and inequality in recent years. However, this trend may not continue due to changes in the global economic landscape.
This concern was highlighted in the World Bank’s Report on Poverty and Equity in Mexico, presented at UNAM’s Faculty of Economics.
Strategic Partnership Between UNAM and Arizona Universities
A delegation of university officials visited UNAM’s Tucson Center for Mexican Studies to advance an agenda to renew strategic partnerships in research, academic exchange, innovation, and support for the Mexican community.
The delegation was led by Tamara Martínez Ruiz, Secretary of Institutional Development; William Lee Alardín, Coordinator of International Affairs; Francisco Suárez Güemes, General Director the Office for International Cooperation and Internationalization; Rosa Zárate, Director of the School of Nursing and Obstetrics; and Rocío Valdez Labastida, Secretary of Student Community Services at the same school.
OEI Recognizes UNAM for its Commitment to Education
The Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI) has honored UNAM with the Ibero-American Development Cooperation Award.
This distinction, launched as part of the OEI’s 75th-anniversary celebrations, recognizes UNAM’s dedication to quality education, internationalization, and educational inclusion.
UNAM Awards Ricardo Torres Gaitán Chair to Aris Spanos
Through its Institute of Economic Research (IIEc), UNAM has awarded the 2025 Ricardo Torres Gaitán Chair to Aris Spanos of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for his contributions to inferential statistics methodology and econometric modeling.
During the ceremony, Miguel Armando López Leyva, UNAM’s Humanities Coordinator, emphasized that the Ricardo Torres Gaitán Chair was established to promote and advance economic research, particularly in economic development.
Soil Conservation Faces Urgent Socio-Environmental Challenges
To exchange ideas, experiences, and insights on the challenges of soil research and conservation, experts from 10 UNAM academic entities, 17 research, teaching, and service laboratories, and 20 members of the University Network of Soil Laboratories (RULabS) participated in the 2025 Meeting of the University Network of Soil Laboratories: Weaving Networks of Knowledge and Analysis.
